Clocking In: Why the Early Shift?

Because I remember what it’s like to be pulled, but unsure of the direction. I still feel like that now. I have walked into a series of helping roles, jumping headfirst into connecting, facilitating, teaching, and burnout.

The Early Shift is for those becoming. A space is for the ones just starting—
Or starting over.
Or starting again, a little wiser, a little wearier.

Whether you’re exploring or pursuing therapy for the first time
as a client
—or becoming a therapist yourself
—you can find something here.

I built this for:

  • Aspiring practitioners trying to find their approach, their people, their “why.”
  • Clients-in-waiting who are wondering if therapy is worth it, or if they’ll be seen, understood
  • Questioners who aren’t sure what help looks like yet—but know they need some.

I needed something else. I was searching up…

“How do you know if it’s time for therapy?”
“What’s my theoretical orientation?”
“Therapist demosgraphics.”
“How can I help people? Without a license?”

Because I am still in the thick of that asking.

So this page holds stories, reflections, definitions, starter guides, and a little light for the road ahead.
Not answers, always. Sometimes, never. But companionship. Clarity. Care.

This is the Early Shift.
Let’s begin.

Note to Aspiring Practitioners:
The materials and reflections shared here are based on personal experience, academic training, and community care values. They are not a replacement for accredited coursework, licensure supervision, or professional mentoring.
Use what resonates. Question everything. Your path may look different—and that’s okay.
